Why you need PAT Testing

Why should you test your appliances?

The electricity at Work Regulations (1989) Section 4(2) places a legal responsibility on Employers “to prevent danger” from use of electrical equipment. All systems should be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is practical, such danger.

If someone has an accident and you have not maintained your appliances properly, the Health and Safety Executive have the power to close your business and you could be prosecuted.

What does the PAT test involve?

We would inspect, test and certify all your portable appliances and provide advice as to their condition and safety.

We would provide a written report together with a test certificate as evidence that your appliances have been inspected and tested in compliance with the Regulations.

Typically, an inspection would check for the following:

Each appliance would be tested for earth continuity, insulation resistance, polarity and earth leakage.
